Coinpurse is a local-first personal finance app. Everything — accounts, transactions, subscriptions, budgets, goals, net-worth history — lives in storage on the device you're using. There is no account to create and no backend to sync to. The Mac app runs a tiny web server against your own machine; the web version keeps everything in your browser's local storage. Either way, the numbers stay with you.
It's the calm, good-looking money app most people wish their bank shipped — quick to enter things, honest about what's coming, and built so that we couldn't see your data even if we wanted to.
Coinpurse is organized into eight sections in the sidebar — Dashboard, Recurring, Transactions, Budgets, Goals, Net Worth, Reports and Settings. Here's what each gives you.
Your money at a glance — total balances, this month's spend, an insights strip (projected month-end burn rate, biggest category, upcoming renewals) and a spending heatmap. Quick-add sits right at the top.
Every subscription and recurring bill in one calendar of what's due. Price-hikes get flagged, trial-to-paid conversions get a warning, and the sidebar shows a badge counting what's coming up. It even auto-detects subscriptions from your transactions.
A fast, searchable ledger. Filter with a tiny query language — >50 for amounts over $50, cat:groceries for a category. Add transfers between accounts without double-counting.
Per-category monthly budgets with progress bars that turn as you spend. See what's left, what's over, and how the month is pacing.
Savings goals with progress rings — a house deposit, an emergency fund, a trip. Watch each one fill up, and get a little confetti when you hit the target.
Real monthly net-worth snapshots plotted on an interactive chart, so you can see the line go up (or down) over time. Snapshots are taken automatically as your balances change.

Open Settings → Accounts and add each place your money lives — checking, savings, a credit card, cash, a brokerage. Give each a starting balance. That balance is what feeds your net worth and your dashboard totals.
At the top of the Dashboard is Quick add. Type it like a human — 14.20 Chipotle lunch — and press Enter. Coinpurse parses the amount, the merchant and a sensible category and files it. No forms.
Prefer to move fast everywhere? Hit ⌘K for the command palette and do anything from the keyboard.
Already have data? Export a CSV from your bank and use Settings → Import CSV. Coinpurse maps the columns, and because the app is local-first, that file is read on your device — it's never uploaded anywhere.
Go to Recurring and add your subscriptions and bills, or accept the ones Coinpurse auto-detected from your transactions. Now the renewal calendar tells you what's due and when, flags price hikes, and warns you before a free trial converts. The sidebar badge counts what's coming up.
In Budgets, give your spendy categories a monthly cap and watch the bars fill. In Goals, create savings targets with progress rings — Coinpurse celebrates when you get there.
Check Net Worth and Reports whenever you want the bigger picture — snapshots accumulate on their own. Since it's your data in a file you own, use Settings → Export to save a JSON backup anytime. Restore it just as easily.

The Transactions search understands little queries: >50 finds everything over $50, cat:groceries filters to a category. Combine them to find things instantly.

Move money between your own accounts as a proper transfer, so it doesn't show up as spending or income and quietly wreck your totals.
Most finance apps are a data-collection business with a UI bolted on. Coinpurse is the opposite. Here's exactly how the privacy works — no fine print.
The app makes no network calls for your data. The Mac app serves itself from a tiny local server on your own machine; the web app writes to your browser's local storage. Nothing to intercept, because nothing is sent.
You don't sign up, log in, or hand over an email. There's no identity attached to your data — there's no login screen at all.
Export a full JSON backup or a CSV whenever you like, and import it back. Your data lives in a file you own — not locked inside someone's cloud.
No telemetry, no pixels, no third-party scripts. Privacy mode (H) even blurs every amount on screen for when other eyes are around.
One caveat, honestly stated: because your data lives only on your device, you're the backup. If you wipe the browser's storage or lose the Mac, that data is gone — so export a JSON backup now and then. That's the trade for having no one else hold your finances.
Coinpurse is the same app everywhere — a single, dependency-free web app. On a Mac you can run it as a native .app; on anything else, install the web app. Pick whichever fits.

Coinpurse.zip ⚠ Not yet notarized — one-time setupBecause it's a free app from an independent dev (not paid into Apple's notarization program yet), macOS shows a scary-looking prompt the first time. It's not a virus warning — here's the one-time fix:
Unzip and install: double-click Coinpurse.zip, then drag Coinpurse.app into your Applications folder and open it.
macOS says it "could not verify" the app. That's Apple's toll booth for un-notarized free apps, not a malware alert. Click Done — not "Move to Trash".
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and next to the Coinpurse message click "Open Anyway", then confirm. You only do this once.

Install it: desktop browsers show an install icon in the address bar. On a phone, use Share → Add to Home Screen.
Launch it from your apps like anything else. Your data is stored in that browser's local storage on this device — so keep using the same browser, and export a backup now and then.
.exe installer (built with Tauri — small, uses the OS's built-in web view) is on the roadmap. Until then the web app is the full experience on Windows and Linux.
